For the right candidates, NeoGraft can be a life-changing procedure. With fuller, thicker hair, men and women experience a more attractive appearance and greater confidence. If you are considering the procedure but unsure whether you meet the candidacy requirements, read on as Denver facial plastic surgeon Dr. Michael McCracken explains the qualifications.
Moderate Hair Loss with Sufficient Donor Hair
NeoGraft uses the follicular unit extraction method, which removes small groups of follicles from hair-bearing scalp and transplants them to balding or thinning areas.
Ideal NeoGraft candidates have moderate hair loss, with adequate donor hair at the back of the scalp. There should be enough hair in the donor area that transplanting some of the follicles will not affect the appearance too drastically. The more donor hair, the thicker the hair will be in the transplant area.
Dr. McCracken can evaluate your hair during a personal consultation and determine whether there is enough hair-bearing scalp to work with. The procedure is appropriate for virtually all hair types, including coarse, curly, straight or fine hair.
Good Health
NeoGraft is appropriate for men and women in good physical health and free from serious medical conditions, like severe hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes and blood clotting disorders, which could raise the risk of complications. The NeoGraft procedure might be minimally invasive, but it is still surgery and good health is important.
Willing to Follow Directions
Candidates must be willing to closely follow Dr. McCracken’s pre- and post-operative instructions. The procedure and recovery are quick with minimal discomfort, but patients must adhere to all of the guidelines set forth by Dr. McCracken for a comfortable and complication-free experience.
Reasonable Expectations of Treatment
NeoGraft produces very attractive and natural looking results, but they won’t be perfect. If you are hoping to restore the thick hair you had as a teenager, NeoGraft might not be for you. It will also take up to a year for the follicles to produce normal hair growth after transplantation.
Suitable candidates understand what can and cannot be achieved through treatment, and have reasonable expectations of the outcomes. This is a topic covered at length by Dr. McCracken during consultation.
